Today, AWAGHA convened a community engagement meeting at its offices in Buluguyi Subcounty, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for sustaining Sexual and Reproductive Health Services (SRHS) and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) interventions. The meeting was attended by the Executive Director of AWAGHA, the Community Development Officer for Buluguyi Subcounty, and AWAGHA community peer leaders, alongside Mr. Charles Emongo, a representative from the Amref/Heroes Program, who oversees Child, Youth, and Family Protection. The discussions focused on strengthening economic livelihood projects that empower community members, especially women and adolescent girls, to sustain health and social programs even as the Heroes Program approaches its phasing-out stage in the subcounty. In her remarks, the Executive Director of AWAGHA highlighted the importance of economic resilience in ensuring the continuity of community-based health initiatives The Community Development Officer commended AWAGHA’s efforts in mobilizing and empowering grassroots groups, reaffirming the local government’s support for initiatives that enhance sustainable livelihoods and improve health outcomes. Mr. Emongo of Amref/Heroes Program also applauded the collaboration, emphasizing the need for continuous community involvement and shared responsibility in promoting the protection and well-being of children, youth, and families. The engagement concluded with a shared commitment among participants to integrate livelihood activities such as tailoring, poultry rearing, and agribusiness into existing SRHS and SGBV programs, ensuring long-term impact and community ownership beyond donor-supported phases.
