Our disease prevention and health promotion programs focus on providing essential services, education, and support to improve health outcomes in our communities.

Disease Prevention & Health Promotion

Our Approach

At AWAGHA, we believe that prevention is better than cure. Our disease prevention and health promotion programs are designed to address the unique health challenges faced by women and adolescent girls living with HIV/AIDS. We work closely with healthcare providers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to deliver comprehensive services that improve health outcomes and quality of life.

HIV/AIDS Prevention

Our HIV/AIDS prevention programs include:

  • Community sensitization, awareness campaigns and mobilization for increased demand and uptake of SRHS HIV testing services
  • Provide social –Behavioral change communication (SBCC) through health communication, counselling drama and interactive theater for change
  • Conduct Risk assessments to clients, Client tracking, follow ups, Linkages and referrals to support groups for uptake of services that address predisposing barriers like stigma, disclosure, discrimination etc.
  • Offer safe male medical circumcision for HIV prevention
  • Condom Promotion and distribution
  • Peer Health education and Promotion Education through community outreaches
  • Prevention of mother-to-child transmission through early screening and testing of HIV for pregnant mothers during antenatal clinic visits and to young infants during YCC
  • STI screening and treatment including safe male medical circumcision
  • Community referrals and linkages for HTS, Care and specialized treatment and support services

Community Health Education

Our Health Education address:

  • Advance Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) Education through curricular Programs of Men engagement, sinovuyo, Program-Y, Family Health and Journeys plus in schools, targeting individuals from age bracket 9years and above to support in preparing their sexual reproductive health lives as they grow and continue staying together in their communities
  • Conduct health communication through drama and interactive theater for change
  • Nutritional assessments, classification, care plans and wellness programs
  • Adolescent Health /youth friendly services and empowerment
  • Mental Health screening and awareness
  • Hygiene and sanitation Education
  • Prevention, screening and management of Gender based violence among communities and households
  • Conduct community Education, Assessment, Screening and Referral for treatment of Tuberculosis(CE-ASRT) among PLHIV and their household members within the community
  • Advance health communication of prevention of malaria in households including its management protocols

Testing & Counseling

We provide increased demand and promotion for comprehensive HIV counseling and testing services through both facilities based models and community based models using HTS approaches:

At the health facility;

  • Provider initiated testing and counselling (PITC), we Employ-Diagnostic testing, index contact testing, -Diagnostic testing, assisted partner and encourage them on knowing your child’s status, Social network strategy
  • Client initiated /Voluntary HIV testing and counseling(CITC) this is basically done at our static facility lab. Then during the Community Based HTS Model, it’s through Home Based testing, Index client testing, Door to Door, integrated health outreaches testing and Partner notification and testing including Linkage to Post exposure prophylaxis (PEP), care and treatment

Psychosocial care and adherence support Services

We offer various support services including:

  • Psychosocial screening, assessment and support services
  • Adherence preparation, monitoring and counselling support for clients on ART medication
  • Nutritional care, support and counseling
  • Positive health, dignity and prevention
  • Community PLHIV -peer follow ups on lost clients under care through family support groups, community based support groups including use of DSD community models
  • Referrals and linkages to specialized support services and CBOs/NGOs for support
  • Promotion of family and partner support to clients on ART, including supported disclosure
