Mixed Farm for Ducks and Chickens

Project Description

The Demonstration Mixed Farm Project is one of AWAGHA’s household economic empowerment initiatives aimed at supporting women and adolescent girls living with or affected by HIV/AIDS. Located in Mugona North, Kapyanga Subcounty, the project focuses on rearing ducks and local chickens as a model for sustainable poultry farming. The goal is to establish a multiplication center that produces more eggs, chicks, and mature birds for sale, thereby improving household income and nutrition. The farm also serves as a learning site where other AWAGHA members can acquire practical skills in poultry management and agribusiness.

Objectives

Establish a functional multiplication center for ducks and local chickens. Generate income for household economic empowerment through the sale of eggs and mature birds. Provide hands-on training in poultry management to women and adolescent girls. Enhance household nutrition by increasing access to animal protein. Promote sustainable small-scale poultry farming among AWAGHA members.

Achievements

Set up a mixed farm in Mugona North with ducks and local chicken stock. Increased egg and poultry production for local market sales. Enhanced household income for participating families. Provided a demonstration and learning site for other AWAGHA members. Empowered women with skills in poultry farming and business management.
