Bugiri District – A stakeholders’ engagement meeting was held this week at the District Health Officer’s (DHO) office to address the growing concern of HIV prevalence among women of childbearing age and infants in the district.
The meeting brought together representatives from various civil society organizations, local health officials, and community leaders. It was organized by the Bugiri District Health Office and facilitated by the Makerere University Joint AIDS Program, Bugiri Cluster Office.
Participants discussed the alarming rise in new HIV infections, particularly among women and young children, and shared ideas on strengthening community awareness, prevention programs, and access to early testing and treatment services.
Speaking at the meeting, health officials emphasized the need for a coordinated approach to reduce mother-to-child transmission and ensure that women receive timely support throughout pregnancy and after childbirth.
The Makerere University Joint AIDS Program team presented recent data on HIV trends in the region and highlighted ongoing interventions aimed at improving health outcomes for affected populations.
